How to be Prepared for the Return of Isa

Bismillahi ar-rahmani ar-rahim

AI-Hajj 22:7

وَأَنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ ءَاتِيَةٌۭ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهَا وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْعَثُ مَن فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ

And surely, the Hour is coming, there is no doubt about it, and certainly, Allah will resurrect those who are in the graves.

Injil, 1 Thessalonians 5:2,3,6

You know with certainty that the day of vengeance of Al-Mawla will come when people do not expect it. It will be like a thief coming at night. When people give each other the good news of peace and safety, destruction will surprise them like labor pains surprise a pregnant woman. None of them will escape. So let us be careful not to sleep like them. Instead, we should stay alert and awake.

The conviction that we live in the last days before the end of this world as we know it, before the advent (glorious coming) of Isa al-Masih (may His peace be with us) and the coming of the Hour is becoming more and more of a hot topic throughout the ummah. For people who suffer oppression, like Muslims in India, China or Palestine, the soon coming of Isa (may His peace be with us) represents hope. It will come as a rescue for people who suffer from hunger, poverty, illness, personal and family issues, or war.

At the same time, many fear the divine judgement. Knowing that Allah will restore justice makes them nervous, and for a good reason. Many who care about the akhirat (afterlife) and who are honest with themselves, tremble: How can I stand before Al-‘Adl (the Just)? I know that I am not good enough.

The wonderful news, brothers and sisters, is this: You don’t need to fear the soon coming of Isa ibn Maryam (may His peace be with us). It is not because of your qualities, which may be many, but will always be lacking, that you can stand before Al-Hakam (the Judge). He said that you can stand before Him because of His Goodness and His provision.

Here is a list of things which can help you be prepared for The Day. Take them as seriously as they deserve to be taken, because everything about your future is at stake - but do not fear. Rejoice. Allah has already provided His rahmat (mercy) and provision. Read about it in our article about Qurban. By judging the world, Allah will forever make an end to all the injustices and suffering in this world and in your own life.

Watch

In the Holy Injil, Isa (may His peace be with us) encourages us to watch and be ready. We do not watch with fear, but with joy and gladness.

Be ready and dressed for service, with your lamps lit. Be like slaves who are waiting for their master to return from a wedding feast. As soon as he arrives and knocks, they will open the door for him. When their master comes and finds them awake, they will have a baraka. I tell you the truth: Their master will roll up his sleeves, gather them at the table, and serve them! They will have a baraka when he finds them staying up at midnight or just before dawn! Be sure of this: If the owner of the house knew what time the robber was coming, he would not have let his house be robbed. Be ready, because Sayyid Al-Bashar will come to you at a time that you do not expect. (Injil, Luke 12:35-40).

Isa Al-Masih uses four statements to emphasize the same point:

“Be ready and dressed”; literally, “let your loins be girded.”

In the days of Isa, people wore long robes like the ones we nowadays call thawab, dishsasha, galabiya or jubbah, for instance. These were a hindrance when you needed to move quickly or freely. If a person planned to run or work, they would tuck their robe into a sash around their waist so that it would not interfere with their movements.

“with your lamps lit”

There was no electricity. If you were expecting a visitor, you would keep an oil lamp burning, so you could see and welcome them in. Again, the idea is: Be ready for the coming of Sayyidna Isa (may His peace be with us).

“Be like slaves who are waiting for their master to return from a wedding feast. As soon as he arrives and knocks, they will open the door for him. When their master comes and finds them awake, they will have a baraka.”

Feasts lasted for days, sometimes for a week. Upon hearing their master arrive, servants would need to be ready to open the door and to serve him. The master could come in the middle of the night when you least expect him, and you had to be ready. Isa (may His peace be with us) warns us to be ready to meet him in such manner when he comes to judge.

“If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.”

If you know when the thief will come, you will be ready and waiting. We know that Isa (may His peace be with us) is coming. What we don’t know is when he will come.

The application of the four statements is, “You, too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect” (Injil Luke 12:40).

To be ready for Isa Al-Masih coming:

He must be your Master.

You must be His servant.

You must live in expectation of the return of Isa Al-Masih.

Do duah (Pray)

Ask Allah to make known to you what He wants you to do to prepare. He will lead and guide you to a place of safety and peace, even in the middle of chaos. He will give you the protection and strength you need to withstand darkness. He will bring you into His glorious light if you are humble enough to ask Him.

Be in right standing with Allah

If you testify with your mouth that Isa is your mawla, and trust in him in your heart, confident that Allah resurrected him alive after his death, you are saved from a worthless life and the fire of Jahannam. (Injil, Romans 10:9)

Forgive and accept forgiveness

If you pardon people for their sins, your Malik Al-Rahman in heaven will forgive you. But if you do not pardon people, your Malik Al-Rahman will not forgive your sins. (Injil, Matthew 6:14-15)

Study and share the Word of Allah

Be careful to present yourself to Allah as an acceptable servant, not being embarrassed about anything, presenting the word of truth in a straightforward manner. (Injil, 2 Timothy 2:15).

Live a faithful life

Do the word of Allah, and do not be satisfied with only hearing it. That would deceive yourselves. The person who listens to the word and does not do it is like a person who looks at his face in a mirror, and then turns away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the person who scrutinizes the perfect sharia of freedom, remains obsessed with it, and does it, not hearing it and forgetting it, is blessed in what he does. (Injil, James 1:22-25)

Do tawbah! Repent!

Ask Allah to help you to truly and sincerely change. Isa al-Masih said:

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near. (Injil, Matthew 4:17).

Listen and help

Allah has given us wonderful opportunity to help prepare not only ourselves, but even the world around us for the glorious second coming of Isa (may His peace be with us). This requires us to listen to the voice of Allah so we can do His will. He will lead us to the places we need to be and share this good news.

Seek Allah and His Kingdom and purpose

You have been resurrected alive with Al-Masih. So seek what is in the heavens, where Al-Masih is sitting at the right side of Allah. Focus your thoughts on things of heaven, not on things of this world. (Injil, Colossians 3:1–2).

Seek after his kingdom and his will first

Seek after his kingdom and his will first. Then Allah will provide all your needs. (Injil, Matthew 6:33)

Search for the full Truth and share it

Isa Al-Masih commissioned His true followers:

So go and make followers from all nations. Immerse them into the name of Al-Malik Al-Rahman, the beloved Amir, and Holy Ruh Allah. Train them to keep everything I have commanded you. I am with you every day forever. (Injil, Matthew 28:19–20)
