Weekly Reading 10 Mu’umin Among the Wicked

Bismillahi ar-rahmani ar-rahim

Last time, we concluded with a set of questions. Thank you to those who answered them. There is only one ayah in the Qur’an, which speaks about a blameless child being born.

Maryam (19) 19

قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَنَا رَسُولُ رَبِّكِ لِأَهَبَ لَكِ غُلَامًا زَكِيًّا

He said, “I am truly a messenger of your Lord to give you a sinless boy.”

The word زَكِيًّا - zakiyyan translates as pure or sinless.

Who was this sinless boy, born from Maryam?

As we had seen, sin started with an act of disobedience in Jannah by Iblis, and, next, Adam and Hawa also disobeyed Allah. The ugliness of sin then got to a new proportion, when Qābīl murdered his brother. Afterwards, things didn’t get any better, and this is what both the Qur’an and the Tawrat say about the state of people in the days of nabi Nuh (aws):

Tawrat, Genesis 6:5

The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.

Hud (11) 36

Nuh was inspired, “No more of your people will believe. So do not grieve over what they did.

Even if everyone around was wicked, Allah did not forget His faithful servant. Nuh (aws) was exceptional in the eyes of Allah.

Tawrat, Genesis 6:9

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.

Does this mean that Nuh (aws) never committed sins?

Hud (11) 47

He (Nuh) said, “My Lord, I take refuge in you for asking about what I was ignorant. If you do not forgive me and have mercy on me, I will certainly be lost.”

The book given by Allah to nabi Musa (aws) agrees:

Tawrat, Genesis 6:8

But Noah found mercy in the eyes of the Lord.

Why was Noah special in the eyes of Allah? (based on the above ayahs, choose one correct answer)

  1. Because he never did anything wrong.

  2. Because he was righteous, blameless, faithful and willing to admit his own mistakes.

  3. Allah simply favored him for no particular reason.

Will Allah judge the whole world again?

Will Allah have mercy on you? Why?
